MEET PUCCI

Meet Pucci, our handsome super senior Pekingnese looking for his perfect retirement home! Pucci came to us after his elderly owner passed away and the surviving family was unable to take him in. We received a plea to save him from being euthanized, and we just couldn’t say no.

When Pucci came to us, our hearts sank a bit. At about 14 years old old, he was severely obese, had orthopedic and spinal issues (likely caused and exacerbated by his weight), and he had great difficulty even standing himself up to walk.  Pucci has spent the past two months at the sanctuary as we’ve been sorting through his medical needs, running full diagnostics, taking him on multiple, short, assisted and supported walks each day to help him lose weight and putting together what we think his best med plan will be going forward. We are now to the point that we feel Pucci is ready for his hopefully final forever home. 

Pucci's not yet technically adoptable, but we are looking for a foster-to-adopt able to continue his care, administer Adequan injections for his joints, and carefully help him with his weight loss journey. A dental is still on the table if we can see his labs continue to improve. We will continue to cover his medical expenses, but we know Pucci would love to be in a home where he can lay at someone’s feet and soak up all the pets and love. He’s completely non reactive to other dogs and would love the companionship of another little or two if possible.
