The day we saw Minnie’s intake picture at our county shelter, our jaws dropped. The neglect of her body is not something that happened over a month or two; it was several months to a year. Within 24 hours, Minnie was pulled from the shelter and on our way to a foster home that would partner with our medical team on next steps. One of the things that we learned right away is that Minnie loves food! She was receiving small home cooked meals and would gobble them up. After blood work and several different tests were run, we learned that Minnie was essentially not able to absorb nutrients from her food and it was passing straight through her. This caused Minnie to be severely emaciated, anemic and to add to it behaviorally she was struggling with separation anxiety.
Minnie craves love. She enjoys being around people either cuddling on the couch, chasing toys or going on walks. During the day, Minnie would be a great co-worker if she is not crated or locked out of your office! She would prefer to sleep in your bed or in her own bed next to yours. Minnie is respectful of her space and a home, but she is not afraid to speak up when she needs you. She prefers to be around dogs that don’t need to constantly be playing and move slower. Minnie is good with cats. Minnie has been around children 9+ years and older and does well; especially if they toss toys around for her! We would love to see her in a forever home where she can continue to get the emotional and medical support that she needs. Minnie will be on a lifelong medication to make sure that her body continues to absorb nutrients. She has gained 10 pounds of healthy weight with this life saving medication!
Minnie got a second chance at life that she so desperately needed! She is so grateful and thankful and deserves a home. Her adoption fee includes her complete veterinary exams, spay (once healthy enough for surgery), vaccines and a microchip. Apply using the button below to meet Minnie. Our little mouse will make you smile every day!
