At just a year old, Ashley, was surrendered to the shelter by her owner when the cute “puppy-phase” was in the past, and she was no longer little.
Soon after she was surrendered, Ashley started struggling in the stressful environment and was placed on the euthanasia list for her stressed and fearful kennel behavior. It was apparent Ashley lacked proper socialization.
The first year of a dog's life is so important for their development. They should be given the opportunity to explore and experience the outside world, interact with people and dogs (other than ones living in the home) and learn manners. It's doubtful Ashely received any of this before she was surrendered to the shelter -- a place that is pretty scary for anyone, especially young Ashley.
Understandably, Ashley acted defensively. Underneath the “tough girl” exterior though, was just a scared, sensitive soul. Our rescue saw more than the dog in the kennel and saved Ashley’s life.
Initially, Ashley seemed to settle outside of the shelter- but overtime, we started to see some of the same behaviors. Our rescue enrolled her into a professional Board & Train program with our trainer. For weeks, Ashley has been forced outside her comfort zone to gain confidence and learn basic obedience.
Ashley’s achievements in training have been amazing! She has been out socializing with people (and dogs) in public places. She is learning how to properly play, and she has learned commands such as “sit”, “stay”, “place”, “lay” and “leave it”. Ashley isn’t just a beauty, she’s got brains too!
Ashley has wrapped up her last day of training, and is now ready for a home! We think she would do best in a home that can give her the structure, routine, activity and adventure she needs. She would love to have another friend to play with, and we are recommending a home with no children. She will do best in a calm, consistent household.
Ashley's adoption fee includes her completed veterinary exams, vaccines, microchip, spay and completed obedience training. We will also include a session with our training so her new family can learn all of her commands. Apply below to come meet Ashley. We can pretty much guarantee you'll fall head over heels in no time!
Adoption fee: $350
