MEET BAXTER

MALE I 9 YRS I ROTTWEILER MIX

9 year old Baxter found himself at the shelter as a senior. Everything was going smooth at the shelter until one day, when he was handed a hot dog. In all his years, Baxter had never tasted a hot dog before an  his taste buds were tingling for more of this meat. He mistakenly misjudged his target (the hot dog) and took a bite of a hand. Of course, the “bite” was accidental, causing a minor injury, but still had to be reported. Although accidental, the shelter still placed him on the euthanasia list. A senior dog, with a bite history wasn’t at the top of the list for most adopters or rescues. We were the only ones who stepped up to save him-and he was so worth saving!

Based on his appearance, Baxter is some sort of shepherd, Rottweiler mix and is balanced with the best characteristic of both breeds. Sensitive, smart like a shepherd with the robust, resilience of a Rottweiler. He is a big boy, weighing a whopping 87lbs and standing three feet tall- which actually considered underweight for his size. We are working on putting some weight on him!

Baxter is as friendly as can be! Although he doesn’t have much of a tail, the little nub of a tail he does have is always wagging. He can actually be a bit too friendly and likes to fling himself into you. We are working on breaking him of this “bad” habit since some people may misinterpret his intentions because of his breed and size. We promise this guy is all good and just isn't self-aware of his size. At times, Baxter can be a bit a “head shy” if you reach to quickly to pet his head or leash him. He’ll sometimes back away and duck his head. It just means that you have to go slow and allow him to be go at his own speed.

Because of his “bite” and enthusiasm for food, he will need to be in a home with no children and someone with breed experience. We think an adult only home with a yard would be the best place for Baxter to be. We like to think Baxter best years are AHEAD of him, not behind, which means we need someone to give our old man the best years of his life for the rest of his life.

Baxter's adoption fee includes veterinary exam, vaccines, neuter and microchip.
