Joshua came to the shelter as a stray and was sequestered to the isolation wing at the shelter.
The shelter staff noted that he had head tremor and tilt, which they feared was due to distemper. Thankfully, thorough testing dismissed distemper as a diagnosis. However, Joshua did test positive for Valley Fever (a non-contagious and common fungal infection), which landed him on the euthanasia list.
While in isolation he couldn’t be walked, he couldn’t be touched, he couldn’t even leave his kennel. Most dogs would deteriorate in these conditions- but not Joshua. We witnessed Joshua in his kennel with a wagging his tail while all alone. No one and nothing around him. He was just happy. How could we let THIS dog die? We couldn’t. We scrambled and at the last second, we saved him.
In no time, we realized Joshua is an absolute angel. I mean, he’s not all dressed in white with wings and a halo, but we just think he is in disguise. Like, he was sent from the heavens above to give us humans hope and happiness. 2-year-old Joshua is a mix of a Border Collie and Lab, which is likely the link to his lovable personality. Adults, babies, dogs, he loves them all-, and everyone loves him right back!
Joshua is currently in a foster home, undergoing treatment for Valley Fever but hope he will be ready for a forever home soon!
